As did I, super duper excited. I missed out on the +5 energy quest becuase the game was getting boring...this makes me feel better :D

BEWARE buying this item! There's NO pop-up window to give you a warning that this item is used on horseshoes, not coins.

They assume you can see the horseshoe image and know it costs horseshoes.

Do not buy or use the jerky until they fix this. I had the same problem as others so I wrote to Zynga and they gave me back my jerky. This is the response from them:
Please be advised that at this point we have an issue with the beef jerky which our game development team are currently addressing. May I suggest that you refrain from using the beef jerky, until after our game development team has released a fix. if you eat beef jerky more than once, do you get +1 energy each time? is this possible to eat beef jerky 5 times and get +5 to max energy level?

Same here, I received one also and my energy level was increased by 1 with no refill. Then when I reached the next level my max energy didn't increase.

I received a beef jerky as a mystery gift and it only gave me 1 energy, I believe it should have given me a full energy refill plus max energy by 1. I was cheated out of 52 energy points....WTF!!!!!
